SOUND OF THE TRUMPET
As America marches toward Civil War, two abolitionists stand united against slavery yet divided by a question that will shape the nation's future. Frederick Douglass believes hearts can be changed through truth, faith, and the power of words. John Brown has come to believe that slavery is an evil so great that only violence can bring it to an end. Their convictions collide as both men are drawn toward decisions that will echo across the nation and change the course of history.
Based on the feature film screenplay by Jim Morrison and Dustin Green, and brought to the graphic novel page by artist Dr. Barron Bell and writer Daniel Hancock, Sound of the Trumpet combines historical authenticity with cinematic storytelling to explore faith, justice, and the moral tension between persuasion and force during one of America's darkest and most defining struggles.

Liberty University Museum Exhibit & Panel
In February 2025, early artwork from Sound of the Trumpet was featured in a month-long exhibit at the Liberty University Art Museum, showcasing original pages, concept art, and behind-the-scenes materials from the graphic novel. The exhibit introduced audiences to the story of Frederick Douglass and John Brown while also highlighting the collaborative work of artist Dr. Barron Bell and writer Daniel Hancock through Sound of the Trumpet, The Runaway Plot, and the award-winning DOMINION graphic novel series.
The exhibit was accompanied by a special Liberty University panel discussion, Impacting Culture Through Art & Entertainment, held in the university's replica Supreme Court courtroom. The panel featured Bell, Hancock, and Sound of the Trumpet screenwriter Jim Morrison IV and explored the role of artists in shaping culture, the importance of faith-informed storytelling, and the pursuit of truth, beauty, and excellence in the arts. The event concluded with conversations encouraging the next generation of writers, filmmakers, and artists to create meaningful work that engages culture.
