A free-wheeling hippie on his way to the legendary Woodstock music festival meets a beautiful artist and agrees to sit for a portrait. Before the paint is dry, however, he falls victim to the artist's jealous husband, who murders him and leaves his soul trapped inside the painting. Drawing inspiration from memories of Cook's own teenage years, The Happy Place blends supernatural adventure, humor, romance, and reflections on life, death, and the afterlife.
While in early development in 2020, Cook discovered Daniel Hancock's audio drama End of Darkness and invited him to collaborate on the project. Originally brought on as a sound effects editor, Hancock's role quickly expanded. He served as sound designer, editor, casting contributor, and publisher, helping guide the project from development through release. Hancock also created the promotional trailer and edited and published the accompanying novella.
Following the completion of The Happy Place, Hancock became one of Cook's key creative collaborators, contributing to the development and production of projects spanning audio drama, publishing, stage plays, and graphic novels.
Reflecting on their collaboration, Cook stated:
"Daniel's creative contribution to Studio PB&J's audio title The Happy Place has been immeasurable. He's a true professional and a joy to work with. For any storyteller who wants to level up their creative content—be it film, print, or audio—Daniel has the imagination and skills to make it happen."
