Absolutely Amazing

I love a good comic/graphic novel. I get lost in the artwork and sometimes need to remind myself to read the words. I analyze every bit of the artwork.
To that end, this is beautiful. The artwork and detail is pretty amazing. So, then the question remains, how is the story? Well, pretty good. I mean, the foundation is the Bible.
Dominion tells the story of King Saul of the Old Testament and predecessor of King David. I was caught off guard by the decision to use animals rather than humans. But in the end, it’s not a bad choice at all. Animals in a space adventure? Not the first time. Why not?
The story of this unhinged leader and the impact on his family and the people in his kingdom is a warning of what happens when people neglect what matters most. An added bonus to me was how they reference the Scripture passages that inspire the situations.
There were a few moments in the story where I would think, “Wait, did they lift that from Return of the Jedi or The Empire Strikes Back?” But even those moments were forgivable and maybe unintended.
Great read for anyone of any age.

We are back for the second volume of Dr. Barron Bell’s Dominion: Fall of the House of Saul. This volume is much shorter, but the story is strong, and the artwork is absolutely gorgeous.
When I started reading Volume 1, I did it to review and tell others about it through word of mouth and social media. I realized toward the end of Volume 1 (and it increased even more in Volume 2) that I was so wrapped up in the story and was fully involved.
As I mentioned in my review of Volume 1, I love that they include the Scripture references so readers can see where they are getting the inspiration for each issue or scene. Great teaching moments. Go look up the source material.
When I finished Dominion: Fall of the House of Saul Volume 2, I called my wife and vented my frustration.
“How long do I have to wait for Volume 3?!?!?!?”
A Vibrant Sci-Fi Retelling of an Ancient Story

I loved this book. The artwork is stunning! The colors are incredibly vibrant and really bring the world to life.
The story itself is even better: it’s a genuinely great sci-fi tale, but what makes it stand out is how it’s rooted in an ancient biblical story (the fall of King Saul from 1 Samuel) reimagined as a sweeping space epic.
That blend of genres shouldn’t work as well as it does, but it does.
Highly recommend for fans of sci-fi and fantasy looking for something different.

Volume 2 picks up right where Volume 1 left off, and it doesn’t disappoint.
The artwork is still stunning, with the vibrant colors carried through beautifully. Where this volume really shines is in the storytelling: the sci-fi elements grow richer and the emotional stakes rise, all while staying true to the original reimagined story.
It’s a rare series that can honor its source material this faithfully while still feeling like a fresh, original space epic.
Even better than Volume 1, if that’s possible. Can’t wait to see where the series goes from here.
An SF Take on the Bible

This is a very different book. It's basically a retelling of part of the Bible. Set in space. Done as space opera. With anthropomorphic animals as the characters. It's much better than that description might make it sound.
It does hew close to the story of David and King Saul, with just about every single character from the Bible brought in, though with enough difference in both the story and the characters to keep your attention. This is done without violating anyone's original personality, which is odd enough these days to be worthy of comment.
It starts with King Saul of the Dominion losing God's favor just as the Philistines, who play the role of the "evil empire" here, find a new weapon or champion named Goliath and start devastating the worlds of the Dominion. The races of the Dominion need a new champion, fast, and maybe one can be found. Unfortunately, Saul doesn't want to let go of his power, so...
The art is lovely and well done. Unlike some similar works, you can tell the characters apart at a glance, which is appreciated. The artist also makes the different races distinct.
It's a fun book. Not meant for very young children, but it's definitely a family work in the best sense of the word.

Very well-written storyline, large-scale layouts, killer graphics, all wrapped up in heavyweight gloss paper with a strong spine and binding. Quality novel all around.
If you love graphic novels based on Christianity, this is a must-have.

I've spent my entire life reading comics and the Bible. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would find a work that so wonderfully combines the two.
Unfortunately, most Christian comics I've read don't have the same level of quality and professionalism as those from major publishers. Dominion not only meets that same level of quality, but actually surpasses it.
Barron Bell's art is absolutely stunning, bringing the story of Saul to life in an entirely new way. Dominion is one of my favorite comics, and I eagerly await each new release.
This isn't just a great Christian comic—it is a great comic, period.

Dominion: Fall of the House of Saul illustrates the 3,000-year-old biblical story of King Saul like you've never seen it before.
Picture Star Wars meets Narnia (with a family-friendly hint of Game of Thrones drama) to reverently reimagine the rise and fall of Israel's first king.
Kids and adults alike can enjoy the fast-paced story and superior artwork, which leverage high-impact visual storytelling to teach the biblical morals and lessons from the book of 1 Samuel.
It's so great to see mainstream-quality, family-friendly, faith-based entertainment, and I can't wait to see what comes next from this team of faithful creatives!

An amazing retelling of the story of King Saul from the Bible.
It takes the story of Israel's first king and transforms it into an incredible sci-fi epic.
The reimagining places a strong focus on its characters, helping readers connect with the royal family and their individual journeys.
Top it off with absolutely phenomenal artwork, and this is a graphic novel that will not disappoint.
The comic that proves Bible-inspired stories and modern comics can come together to satisfy every fan of science fiction and fantasy.
